tofurky day
it's fun to see the family on thanksgiving... but thank goodness for the kennedy house, where you can always find some great vegan leftovers!
(btw, no one i know eats tofurky... it was one of things we all tried once, didn't like, and never tried again. who needs tofu when you've got mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, stuffing, cranberry sauce...)

happy birthday jay!

today, my dear pal jay is 25, which is pretty old if you ask me. but i think it's ok. i talked to him earlier and his morning was going splendidly. i hope the rest of his day is equally nice.

in loving memory of my fuzzy friend
ashes, my fluffy grey kitty died yesterday in her sleep. she had to have been at least 15 years old. she was in pennsylvania with my mom, and mom called yesterday to tell me the news. she had been super sick (yet again - mom had to go through the awful force-feeding business like we did a few years ago when she still lived with me in petaluma), so it wasn't so much a surprise. but still sad.
here are some happy things i remember about ashes:
- she was super soft and had the prettiest kitty face ever
- we got her because my uncle saw her (as a kitten) and her little cat family thrown out of a car window (she was the only one who survived)
- she liked to chase hair bands and dum dums.
- she loved the rain, and would sit in the middle of the street looking up at the water falling on her
- she would go along with anything we did - like when kelly was super into "magic" and would wrap her in a blanket and spin around letting ashes fly out from beneath blanket, thus "disappearing"
- she and stripers had the cutest little striped kittens
- she loved sitting on the staircase in our petaluma house and looking down on us below
- she had the raddest rolling RRRRRR meow (i can do it well, so ask me some time) and a sweet growl too
- in cat years, ashes was at least 100. if i was that old and had to be force fed, i think i'd want to die too.
so, anyways, woohoo for ashes, dancing around in kitty heaven!

prelude to the big reunion
last night, johnny boy came home from england (a surprise visit his mom had whispered to me only earlier that day), and, oh, how it's fun to have him home. things in the kennedy household are that much cheerier, plus it makes all sorts of fun people get together.
tonight, i hopped in the burrito wagon with johnny and scottie mcD (with mr. mike as well) and we trekked on up to sebastopol for tasty treats at pappas y pollo, where we met p8trick and everything.
then, we headed over to jay's house for fun times with his rad roommates and their sparkly hula hoops (among other things). we toured the house, the plants, the various donkey decorations - you name it.
as more and more friends return to novato for the holidays, more and more fun is sure to follow. which is great. because i am definitely a fan of fun. mmm hmmm, definitely.

the latest craze
marbles - seriously times ten, that's the latest craze at the elementary schools... well, at least for 5th graders in san rafael. all the boys play (few girls seem to play, one girl told me they like more "romantic" things, whatever that means to a 5th grade girl) and carry loads of marbles around in their pockets. and they don't have just the normal marbles and shooters i'm accustomed to. they've got these huge jawbreaker-size marbles they carry around too. and, of course, these kids are all super into it because they play for keeps.
watching them play reminds me of watching old men play dominoes or bocci ball (or lawn bowling or whatever it's called) or chess (or GIANT chess, german-style). there will be maybe two or three boys playing, but then a zillion other boys around directing them and commenting, and totally getting in the way and being all loud and junk. it's a wacky craze. i'm not sure i'll ever be able to understand all the hype that surrounds it. we'll see.
that's what i've observed from my first three days of work. i like work. i like working. let's hope i get more, k?
oh, and i will write about the coolness that was halloween and homecoming... just not now...
