novato advance

after a serious delay, my soda story finally appeared on the front page of the local paper this week.

it doesn't look as cool here as it does in print - it's the big story on the front page, separated from the others with special colors and junk. there are little pics with student quotes along the side, and there's a dope nutrition chart inside the paper where the story continues.

i'm glad it got printed. i'm glad i have a published story for my portfolio or resume or whatever. but to tell the truth, i'm not so happy with it. because they had to postpone it for three or so weeks, they had to rewrite the first few paragraphs... which on one hand is good, because they were able to tie in the whole water day business, but on the other hand, they wrote it and the cheesiness sounds so strange added on to my words, totally out of place if you ask me.

anyway, i've come to realize (well, confirm... i always sorta knew) that reporting is definitely not for me. while writing the story, i felt like a snoop, visiting all the schools and doing all my interviews, digging up facts and quotes and whatnot. and then, i have no control once i turn it in. once the editors get it, there's no telling how it could turn out. i'm not into that whole not-having-control thing. no sir-ee.

but, hey, i did it. another experience, another lesson or two learned.
